Designing with Pairs

If one is great, two is better! In a recent edition of Veranda, Houston interior designer Michael Dale remarked, “I’m the second of twins, and it’s kind of like: What if they’d left me behind? If I see a pair of something I have to have both of them. ” As I consider the many pairs in my own home I couldn’t agree more.
My Chinese vases
From sofas, chairs, lamps (three pairs), bookcases, vases, and planters, these “twins” add boldness and balance to a room without introducing the distraction of extra details. This is especially true when the pieces are asymmetric but form a single impression when placed together. So when presented the opportunity to buy two antique somethings, just do it, or you will come to mourn the missing mate.
